Ariane et Barbe-bleue
September 13 - October 6 (various dates)
The only extant opera of composer Paul Dukas, Ariane et Barbe-bleue retells the grisly myth of the sinister Bluebeard in a modern three act opera. When the murderous nobleman takes a new wife, he entrusts her with seven keys—one of which she is forbidden to use. But can the young Ariane restrain her curiosity? Dukas’s magnificent score explores Ariane’s story and considers the deeper question of human liberty. €5-130.
