Some of us may still long for New York's Yama sushi or the delicious sushi joints in L.A.'s Little Tokyo, but it is getting increasingly easy to find a solid, basic sushi here in Paris, too. Here are some tried-and-true sushi restaurants I've enjoyed:
3rd arrondissement:
SUSHI SHOP
42, rue de Bretagne (see website for many other Parisian locations - www.sushishop.fr)
Fresh and reliable take-out/delivery-only restaurant. Open every day and accepts credit cards (even Amex!). Order the delicious sushi lunch special for 11.50 take-out or 12.50 delivered. Vegetarian (non-fish) options available.
4th arrondissement:
ALLO SUSHI
13, rue Cloche Perce
By far my favorite. Delicious miso soup and spicy tuna that is actually spicy. Sushi dinner for two, including soup or salad, is 40 euros. Asahi beer is 5 euros for a 50cl can to share.
9th arrondissement:
FUJIYAKI
20, rue Henri Monnier
Pretty good sushi and prices and a welcome break from the Moulin-Rouge touristy crowd. We spent about 45 euros on dinner for two, including miso soup, beer, and ice cream dessert.

Sushi in Paris
Sushi lovers beware!
A lot of Japanese restaurants are in fact owned and managed by Chinese people. That may not be a problem (i could probably open an Italian restaurant in Mexico, i think, though i am French), but it could be surprising. Recently, my tiny pieces of fish arrived on top bulky balls of rice AND accompanied by an extra bowl of rice. That’s when i gathered the chef wasn’t from Tokyo. The Mandarin-speaking waiter later confirmed it.
